This was the first month of Taps 150 and it was a busy month. the sad part is that there is only 11 more months to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of Taps.
We are getting new members from all over America and that's great. I ask that all Directors stay alert and call the new players to see and hear them and get them active as soon as possible.
I only did two missions in January both on the same day. This is great news as the rest were filled by a number of Illinois players jumping on all new requests. In the Chicago area BAA is the first to be called by the Navy out of Great Lakes and the area Coast Guard. Georgia, The entire East Coast, California, and even Arizona have really gotten busy.
I see that Jari says we have over 100 players signed up for May 19th at Arlington.
Early in the month I got several requests for patches, and pins and they went out. Today 1-30-12, I will drop off another seven envelopes with gear. there is NO charge and it's first come first served.
Let us know if you are planing anything in your area for Taps 150.
Not sure if you remember about a year and one half ago I saw two young men in the cold weather sleeping in front of my house in a running car. I thought they might have been overcome by gas so I called the police. As it turned out they were sleeping and the car was stolen and drugs taken. So the Police gave me credit for a stolen car recovery and a drug Bust. Well on the 13 of Jan. 2012 I heard my bell ring and I went to the door to find a 4 and 5 year old girl with their Grandma and no coats on. Not much English and all they could say was SMOKE and pointed south. So I ran out the door with them and down two houses where they lived and saw all the smoke. I told them to stay outside and I ran back home and called the fire dept. Even as I was heading back to their house I could hear the Fire Trucks coming. When I got back to the house they had gone back in and I got them out again and the fire chief was going in with a hose. They put the family in a squad car to stay warm. The Chief and the lead police officer took my report and said ." Tom you just saved four lives and the rest of the house from total destruction." The fire was stopped in the Basement. The family from North Vietnam will move back in in March.
If your in Florida, don't forget John Murphy's Four Chaplains program. Or you can even get out and sound Taps this Friday in their honor. I still think they all deserve the CMH.
Play well, and thanks for all you as members of BAA are doing.
Pray for our Troops and Fly the Flag.
