Lakeway, Texas Memorial Day Program
BAA Bugler Duane Zimmerman participated in the Heritage Commission, Lakeway, Texas Memorial Day Program playing a World War l Bugle loaned to him for the day by an 85 year old member of the Commission. It was used in World War l by her Father. It was a Rexcraft, U.S. Regulation Bugle that was produced approximately 1892. It was certainly a great honor to play the old, slightly bent, dented and battered instrument. It had a Frank Holton mouthpiece and sounded very good. At the posting of the co

Robot Bugler has gone AWOL
For all those Directors who keep track of our membership lists; be advised that the Robot Bugler has fallen asleep. For at least the past week, and perhaps longer, you may well have had new members register in your state without getting the heads up notice that was commonly sent to you via the robot. The problem is being researched with the intent to wake up the robot and get him back to duty, but for the time being, you will need to make a daily check on the total number of members listed for

Newsletter Stories: Pennsylvania Rolling Thunder Event
The Pennsylvania chapters of Rolling Thunder are sponsoring an all-chapter, state event to take place on the grounds of James Van Zandt VA Hospital, 2907 Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, PA on Saturday, July 11, 2009. The group will begin to gather on the grounds at 11 A.M. and wrap up the day with a memorial service and wreath laying at The Wall at 3 P.M. Their State Director has contacted Bugles Across America with a request for buglers to take part in this memorial presentation. If you can be there to take part by sounding Taps at the close of the ceremony, please do so. I would be pleased to see many buglers show up that day in support of this event.

BAA Badges update
Buglers,
I want to "Thank you", for what you do. Also for those that have purchased a name badge from me. This badge has been Ok'd by the Founder/President Tom Day. It is not a standard requirement, it is your choice to have one. Due to the rise in postage, I have to raise my costs to $7.00 per badge from the $6.50 I was charging. It costs approximately $1.13 to mail in the US. Please remember that .50˘ is donated back to BAA.
I have changed the design of the badge to a textured one as it resists scratchs. Other sites here show the badge, I will try to upload one.

Newsletter Stories: Admin Access for State Directors
Hello All,

There have been many directors without the ability to edit their state's rosters. I will be working on this in the next few days. If you are listed as a Director you will be given access provided you were approved by Tom. So please check your accounts. Asst. Directors, that apply, will not be done at this time, unless the Director sends me approval for you. Needless to say, but being said: Abuse will not be tolerated.

There are many people that have access that no longer will have it due to a loss of a role, or no longer on the site (39 removed). If you have had access and lose it because of the above, and there is a valid reason for you to keep it, please contact me. This is an effort to help the directors do a better job of watching their state's roster, and controlling the information in it.

Personal Service
Yesterday, Memorial Day 2009 my husband and I were sitting on the couch with our three year old son watching TV before dinner. Flicking through channels we came upon a news story about the playing of Taps and the last honor for military personnel. We both sat in disgust as we listened to what was being said.
How could this be? Those who were courageous enough to fight and give their lives for our freedom honored with a tape player! I encourage you to say that out loud so you can hear the disrespect in the statement. How could someone allow this? We consider ourselves lucky that we are able to raise a child in the freedom our fore fathers set out for us to have. We are blessed that there are those who are brave enough to continue to fight so our child can sleep peacefully at night with no fears or real life monsters. We just can't see how people don't feel the same way. It is a honor and a right to have a LIVE version of Taps played. A tape player is not suffice and shouldn't be allowed.
